Series 1. No. 1. John 1:14

These sessions are designed to take 30 minutes with three people. Everything you need is on this page. Just keep scrolling down. Appoint one person to be time keeper. If you are a group who spends too much time on "Connect" put it after "Reflect" and begin with "Pause and pray".

This session looks at some words from the prologue to John's Gospel in which John is introducing Jesus.

1.Connect (9 mins)

Share together:

- What has been encouraging in your week?

- What is likely to be your biggest challenge coming up this next week?

2. Pause and pray (1 min)

Allow a moment of quiet. Then pray...

“Heavenly Father, please speak to us by your Spirit as we read your word. Please show us more of Jesus, more of ourselves and who we each are in Jesus. Amen.”

3.Read (5 mins)

- One person read slowly. As it is read, quietly note what strikes you.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14 (NIVUK)

- Allow time to reflect quietly on what struck you.

A different person read the verse again slowly.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14 (NIVUK)

- Each share: what particularly strikes you?

Read the verse again.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14 (NIVUK)

- Each share what struck you this time?

4.Reflect (10 mins)

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

- How does this picture of Jesus compare with what lots of people think about Jesus?
[Note: “we” is referring to the Apostles”]

- How might this verse connect with the challenges you may be facing this week?

- What might it look like to be like Jesus, full of grace and truth?

5.Pray (5 mins)

- Read the verse together

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14 (NIVUK)

- and then pray for each other for the week ahead. You could finish with this prayer:

Thank you Jesus that you became one of us and lived among us. Thank you that in you we see the glory of God the Father reflected in you, God the Son. Thank you that you are full of grace and truth. Please help us to live in the light of your grace and truth this week. Amen

6. Take it into the week

Memorise the verse this week.
