Series 1. No. 3. John 3:35-36

These sessions are designed to take 30 minutes with three people. Everything you need is on this page. Just keep scrolling down. Appoint one person to be time keeper. If you are a group who spends too much time on "Connect" put it after "Reflect" and begin with "Pause and pray".

This session looks at some words after John the Baptist has been talking about Jesus.

1.Connect (9 mins)

Share together:

- How has John 3:16 been an encouragement to you this week?

- What is likely to be your biggest challenge coming up this next week?

2. Pause and pray (1 min)

Allow a moment of quiet. Then pray...

“Heavenly Father, please speak to us by your Spirit as we read your word. Please show us more of Jesus, more of ourselves and who we each are in Jesus. Amen.”

3.Read (5 mins)

- One person read slowly. As it is read, quietly note what strikes you.

The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.

John 3:35-36 (NIVUK)

- Allow time to reflect quietly on what struck you.

A different person read the verse again slowly.

The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.

John 3:35-36 (NIVUK)

- Each share: what particularly strikes you?

Read the verse again.

The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.

John 3:35-36 (NIVUK)

- Each share what struck you this time?

4.Reflect (10 mins)

The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.

- What is God the Father's attitude to his Son?

- If you have children, how do you feel if people treat your children badly? What about if they honour them?

- What is all people's 'natural' state without Jesus? What eternity are they facing?

- Who particularly close to you has not come to know Jesus yet?

5.Pray (5 mins)

- Read the verse together

The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.

John 3:35-36 (NIVUK)

and then pray
- for the people you love who don't yet know Jesus to come to know him.
- for each other for the week ahead.
- You could finish with this prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, these words are more challenging. Thank you that you love your Son so much you have given everything into his hands. Thank you that through knowing Jesus we have eternal life. Please bring [add names in here] to come to know Jesus. Please give us opportunities to point them to you. Amen

6. Take it into the week

Memorise the verse this week.
