Series 1. No. 2. John 3:16

These sessions are designed to take 30 minutes with three people. Everything you need is on this page. Just keep scrolling down. Appoint one person to be time keeper. If you are a group who spends too much time on "Connect" put it after "Reflect" and begin with "Pause and pray".

This session looks at some words after Jesus was speaking to the religious leader Nicodemus.

1.Connect (9 mins)

Share together:

- In what ways have you been able to respond with grace and truth this last week?

- What is likely to be your biggest challenge coming up this next week?

2. Pause and pray (1 min)

Allow a moment of quiet. Then pray...

“Heavenly Father, please speak to us by your Spirit as we read your word. Please show us more of Jesus, more of ourselves and who we each are in Jesus. Amen.”

3.Read (5 mins)

- One person read slowly. As it is read, quietly note what strikes you.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16 (NIVUK)

- Allow time to reflect quietly on what struck you.

A different person read the verse again slowly.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16 (NIVUK)

- Each share: what particularly strikes you?

Read the verse again.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16 (NIVUK)

- Each share what struck you this time?

4.Reflect (10 mins)

For God so loved _____  that he gave his one and only Son, that _______ believ[ing] in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

- Each person put your name in the blank space above and read it out.

- How might knowing you are so loved by God that He gave his one and only Son for you change your week?

- Which name would you find hardest to put in the blank spot? Why?

5.Pray (5 mins)

- Read the verse together

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16 (NIVUK)

- and then pray for each other for the week ahead. You could finish with this prayer:

Thank you Heavenly Father that you loved this broken dark world so much and you loved me so much in my darkness and brokenness that you gave your one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. Help me grasp the wonder and amazement of that. Amen

6. Take it into the week

Memorise the verse this week.
